Bird Dawgs Fall 2-1 Despite No-Hit Bid into 7th

KINSTON, N.C. (July 30, 2026) – The Down East Bird Dawgs carried a no-hit bid into the seventh inning but were undone by a four-hit ninth-inning rally, falling 2-1 to the Tri-City ValleyCats at Historic Grainger Stadium Thursday night as their losing streak reached a season-high eight games and dropped the Bird Dawgs to 28-41.

Jose Moreno set the tone with three hitless innings to open the game before the Bird Dawgs broke through in the sixth on a Kalae Harrison RBI double to take a 1-0 lead.

Dylan Broderick broke up the no-hit bid with a bunt single in the seventh, but the ValleyCats still had just one hit heading into the ninth before finding their rhythm when Amani Larry doubled home two runs and Brayden Jobert added an RBI single to cap four consecutive hits and give Tri-City a 2-1 lead.

The Bird Dawgs had the tying run on base in the bottom of the ninth but could not bring him home to set the final at 2-1.

Moreno was sharp in his three no-hit innings to open the game. Jacob King (0-2) took the loss and blew the save, surrendering two runs on four hits in the ninth.

Adam Maher was stellar for Tri-City, allowing one run on five hits over 6⅓ innings with four strikeouts and two walks. Noel Soto earned the win with 1⅔ scoreless innings and three strikeouts. Wyatt Cameron collected the save with a clean ninth.

The Bird Dawgs (28-41) look to snap their eight-game losing streak Friday, July 31, at 7 p.m. at Historic Grainger Stadium.
