WASHINGTON, Pa. (August 6, 2026) – Jose Moreno exited early with an injury, and Washington scored in each of the first five innings to build an insurmountable lead, as the Down East Bird Dawgs fell 7-4 to the Wild Things at EQT Park Thursday night, dropping the series two games to one.

Washington built a 7-0 advantage through five innings, highlighted by a Jeff Liquori two-run homer and an RBI single.

Liquori added to his night in the sixth with a spectacular home run-robbing catch on a Christian Adams drive to keep the shutout intact before Colby Backus broke through with a solo homer in the eighth to make it 7-1.

The Bird Dawgs put together a late rally in the ninth as Backus doubled in a run and Kalae Harrison singled in two more to set the final at 7-4.

Moreno (1-1) took the loss, allowing three runs on three hits over 1⅓ innings with one strikeout and two walks before exiting with an injury. Position player Trotter Harlan stepped onto the mound in relief and delivered four innings, allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts.

Kenton Egbert (1-0) earned the win for Washington, tossing five scoreless innings on two hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

The Bird Dawgs (32-43) look to bounce back against the Lake Erie Crushers in a three-game weekend series beginning Friday, August 7, at 7 p.m. ET at ForeFront Field in Avon, Ohio.
