Bird Dawgs Take Series Win Over Crushers, Look for First Sweep of Season Sunday
AVON, Ohio (August 8, 2026) – Kalae Harrison homered and drove in three runs as the Down East Bird Dawgs pulled away for a 9-4 victory over the Lake Erie Crushers at ForeFront Field Saturday night, clinching the series win and setting up a chance at the first sweep in franchise history Sunday afternoon.
Down East grabbed an early 1-0 lead on a Harrison RBI single before Lake Erie tied it on a Pavin Parks RBI single.
Ali Lapread’s sacrifice fly put the Bird Dawgs back in front in the third before Parks responded with a three-run homer to give the Crushers a 4-2 lead.
Down East tied it again in the fourth on a Kenny Levari RBI groundout, and Stephen DiTomaso hit a sacrifice fly to knot it at 4-4.
Colby Backus broke the tie with a solo homer in the sixth, and Levari added an RBI single to push the lead to 6-4 before Harrison put it away with a two-run homer in the seventh to make it 8-4.
Jacob Corson added an RBI single against his former team in the ninth to close out the 9-4 final.
Axel Andueza (4-6) earned the win, allowing four runs on three hits over six innings with six strikeouts and one walk.
Justin Mays started for Lake Erie, allowing four runs on six hits over four innings with two strikeouts and two walks. Wesley Culley (1-2) took the loss, surrendering two runs on three hits over 1⅓ innings with one strikeout and one walk.
The Bird Dawgs (34-43) look to complete the sweep Sunday, August 9, at 1 p.m. ET at ForeFront Field.
