DiTomaso's Leadoff Homer All Henderson Needs in Masterful 1-0 Shutout of Jackals
PATERSON, N.J. (August 11, 2026) – Stephen DiTomaso led off the game with a home run, and Drew Henderson did the rest, delivering seven scoreless innings in the best start of his season as the Down East Bird Dawgs edged the New Jersey Jackals 1-0 at Hinchliffe Stadium Tuesday night, opening the series with a shutout victory.
DiTomaso's leadoff blast in the first inning provided the only run either team would need, as Henderson (4-7) was dominant throughout, allowing just four hits with three walks and two strikeouts over seven scoreless frames. Greg Martinez followed with a hitless eighth to collect the hold before Tanner Duncan closed it out with one hit and one strikeout over the final frame to collect his sixth save of the season.
Both teams finished with five hits, but New Jersey stranded six runners while Down East left four on base.
Connor Maryniak (3-1) took the loss for New Jersey, allowing the one run on two hits over two innings with two walks and one strikeout.
The Bird Dawgs (35-44) look to clinch the series Wednesday, August 12, at 6:35 p.m. ET at Hinchliffe Stadium.
