Bird Dawgs Roll to Five Straight With Doubleheader Sweep, Inch Closer to Playoff Hunt
KINSTON, N.C. (August 22, 2026) – The Down East Bird Dawgs swept both ends of Saturday's twin bill against the Trois-Rivières Aigles at Historic Grainger Stadium, winning 3-1 in Game One and 5-3 in Game Two to tie their longest winning streak of the season at five games, take a 5-0 series lead, and pull within five games of a playoff spot at 42-47.
Game One
Trois-Rivières grabbed a 1-0 lead on a Drew Barragan sacrifice fly before the Bird Dawgs answered in the second on a Trotter Harlan RBI single.
Kenny Levari added an RBI double in the fourth and Harlan delivered again in the sixth with another RBI single to close out the 3-1 win.
Rolando Heredia-Bustos (3-5) earned the win, allowing one unearned run on two hits over five innings with two strikeouts and two walks. Tanner Duncan collected his seventh save of the season, escaping a bases-loaded jam in the sixth with a strikeout before retiring the side in the seventh.
Noe Toribio (4-9) took the loss, allowing three runs — two earned — on six hits over 6⅔ innings with two strikeouts and four walks.
Game Two
Trois-Rivières took a 1-0 lead in the first on a bases-loaded hit by pitch before Lyle Miller-Green tied it immediately with an RBI single in the bottom half.
Isaac Webb's RBI double in the second put the Aigles back in front 2-1 before Levari's sacrifice fly tied it again in the fourth.
The Bird Dawgs broke through in the sixth as Juan Garcia singled in two and Stephen DiTomaso drew a bases-loaded walk to push the lead to 5-2.
Sam Franco answered with a solo homer for Trois-Rivières in the seventh, but it was too little too late as the Bird Dawgs held on for the 5-3 final.
Axel Andueza started for Down East, allowing two runs on three hits over two innings with two strikeouts and two walks before a 32-minute rain delay cut his outing short. Jack Hagan (5-3) earned the win with 1⅓ scoreless innings. Greg Martinez collected his fourth save of the season, allowing one run on one hit in the ninth while facing just four batters.
Fawster Voytko started for Trois-Rivières, allowing two runs on four hits over five innings with four strikeouts and two walks despite the delay. Jackson Grounds (4-3) took the loss, surrendering three runs on one hit with two walks before exiting with an injury.
The Bird Dawgs (42-47) look to complete a six-game series sweep Sunday, August 23, at 4 p.m. ET at Historic Grainger Stadium.
