Bird Dawgs Drop Series Finale 4-0 but Take Series 5-1, Head to Tri-City
KINSTON, N.C. (August 23, 2026) – Drew Henderson was brilliant for six shutout innings, but the Down East Bird Dawgs were held to just three hits, falling 4-0 to the Trois-Rivières Aigles in the series finale at Historic Grainger Stadium Sunday afternoon. Despite the loss, Down East claimed the series five games to one and head to Tri-City at 42-48.
A pitching duel dominated the first six innings before Trois-Rivières broke through in the seventh as Liam Bushey launched a three-run homer and Lizandro Rodriguez added a sacrifice fly to take a 4-0 lead that held as the final.
The Bird Dawgs managed just three hits on the night — a Stephen DiTomaso double in the fourth, a Kenny Levari single in the sixth, and a Yeniel Laboy base hit in the eighth — and never threatened to score.
Henderson was outstanding in a no-decision, allowing just two hits with five strikeouts and three walks over six scoreless innings. Zac Flontek (4-3) took the loss, surrendering four runs on three hits in ⅓ of an inning.
Anthony Escobar (4-7) was dominant for Trois-Rivières, facing the minimum through seven scoreless innings on two hits with eight strikeouts and no walks.
The Bird Dawgs (42-48) head north for a six-game road series against the Tri-City ValleyCats beginning Tuesday, August 25, at 6:30 p.m. ET at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in Troy, N.Y.
